Highlights: Under Milk Wood

To mark the centenary of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, Dear Conjunction created in 2014 a vibrant stage version of his celebrated “play for voices”, Under Milk Wood. Today, we invite you to step once again into this theatrical and sound-rich journey, spending a whole day in the heart of the little village of Llareggub — a place as imaginary as it is profoundly human.

In this poetic microcosm, its inhabitants spring to life with irresistible force: Captain Cat, Mrs Ogmore-Pritchard, Dai Bread, Polly Garter, Mr Waldo… and many more besides. Together they form a gallery of characters who are by turns comic, tender, excessive and moving — a community of voices, desires, memories and secrets.

Dylan Thomas saw this work as a response to the bombing of Hiroshima: a way of reaffirming the world’s beauty in the face of devastation. Under Milk Wood is therefore a radiant celebration — of love, of language (and the love of language), of imagination… and above all, of life, in all its fragility and brilliance.
